Holy Trinity Church, Old Town, Stratford CV37 6BG

Bach Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring transcribed for string orchestra by Eugene Ormandy, Bach Concerto for Two Violins in D minor BWV 1043, Robert Matthew-Walker Walker Fantasia Della Sinfonia, Chamber Symphony No.2 (World Premiere), Walton Two Pieces for Strings from the film music Henry V, Janácek Suite for Strings.
Student violinists join with the Stratford Virtuosi Orchestra to deliver a concert featuring string music both old and new. The uplifting Jesu Joy and the ever popular Concerto for Two violins by Bach is followed by a World Premiere composed by longstanding friend of the festival Robert Matthew-Walker. Fantasia Della Sinfonia promises to be an exciting and lyrical addition to the string orchestra repertoire. The two short pieces from Henry V are evocative and particularly atmospheric when performed in the church where Shakespeare is buried. Janacek’s Suite for Strings is full of rhythmic vitality and some truly beautiful melodies, a wonderful way to bring this year’s festival to a close. Admission £13, concessions £10, under 16’s free available at the door. To reserve tickets ring 07801 274843 www.rimma-sushanskaya.com
