Close Harmony introduced on the evening, including the chance to hear Christopher Monks sing in the group!

Fifteen years ago, we recorded our first CD on a shoe string budget in one day. It was intended as a record of the first touring programme created by the group, but ended up being a best seller. Played regularly by Radio 3 and Classic FM, it launched the Consort firmly along the path which has led to our success.

The first half of the programme will transport you to the sounds of an English 16th century mass, whilst in a more informal second half, you will be entertained with the lighter side of music from the last 500 years. Through madrigals, folk songs and close harmony, and the chance to mingle with the performers over a glass of wine, it is the perfect way to end the summer.

Following the sell-out success of our first 'Intimate Evenings' in 2017, early booking is recommended.

KARL JENKINS’ THE ARMED MAN: A MASS FOR PEACE

    Armonico Consort & Orchestra

    AC Academy Choirs

    Director | Christopher Monks

    Narrator | Timothy West

Commissioned by the Royal Armouries to mark the new millennium, Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo conflict, whose tragedy was unfolding as it was being composed. Blending genres and cultures, and embracing the full range of emotions that the war evokes, Jenkins conveys a powerful message for world peace.

We will be joined by the forces of over 600 children from our AC Academy choirs in the region, helping recreate the performance initially intended by the composer.

Letters home, tales from the trenches, passages from diaries and extracts from the Wipers Times will be read by actor Timothy West.

The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace is the most inspiring work to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.

Some of Warwick's finest musicians combine forces to form the Warwick Poppies Chorus and Foundation Poppies Ensemble in this collaborative presentation of Duruflé's masterpiece, under the baton of Alex Laing.

Da Capo Chamber Choir, the Gentlemen of St Mary's Choir, King's High School Senior Choir and other friends form the Chorus, while the Poppies Ensemble comprises senior pupils and professionals from the Warwick Foundation schools.

J.S. Bach | Advent Cantata (Wachet auf)

    J.S. Bach | Brandenburg Concerto no 4

M.A. Charpentier | Messe de Minuit pour Noël

    Armonico Consort & Orchestra

    Director | Christopher Monks

The majesty of Bach and the exuberance of Charpentier create the perfect way to begin the festive celebrations.

Wachet Auf, the Advent Cantata, brings Bach’s most famous melody which has inspired composers, artists and even Lloyds Bank! Bach’s genius for melody and counterpoint found in the Cantata is paired with the delightful quirks of structure and instrumentation of his virtuosic Brandenburg Concerto no 4, written for violin, two ‘Flauti d’echo’, strings and continuo.

Charpentier captured all that was joyous about the French Baroque in his music. Messe de Minuit, written to celebrate Midnight Mass, contains his most effervescent choral writing; it is witty, engaging and melodious, and it is guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of any listener.
